As a guideline, this guide estimates between $250,000 and $550,000 per month for 10 positions, between $550,000 and $1,000,000 for 25 positions, and between $1,000,000 and $2,000,000 for 50 positions, on a net basis. It includes a support desk, monitoring, patching, and antivirus software. In Magallanes, transportation costs are quoted based on distance, frequency, and scope.

If you call an IT technician every time something goes wrong, you’re already paying for IT support – but you’re doing it expensively, late, and without knowing what the cost will be next month. Managed support changes this by offering a fixed monthly price. This guide presents planning references and the plans published by DITAP, subject to a proposal.
Indicative ranges for budgeting
These figures are indicative planning ranges, not a verified market study. The values are net, excluding VAT; compare proposals with the same scope.
| Company size | Monthly range | What does it typically include? |
|---|---|---|
| Up to 10 positions | $250.000 a $550.000 | Remote assistance desk, antivirus, updates, and a monthly visit. |
| Up to 25 positions | $550.000 a $1.000.000 | The preceding points, along with increased network and ground monitoring, with limited timeframes. |
| 50 or more positions | $1.000.000 a $2.000.000 | The above, plus additional servers, a service level agreement, and an executive summary. |
Two factors influence the price within the range: the presence of an on-premise server, and the existence of a secondary location. A server adds monitoring and backups; a secondary location adds physical space.
What’s new in Magallanes?
In Punta Arenas and the surrounding region, distances, travel arrangements, and scheduling of visits can affect the cost of service. We do not apply a standard surcharge here; each transportation is evaluated within the proposal. That’s why our plans include the local area in Punta Arenas and quote for travel expenses outside the city, rather than hiding them within the monthly fee.
When is it advantageous to pay for managed support?
The practical rule: From eight or ten teams, or from the first server. Below that, a technician can charge an hourly rate. Above that, the bill is turned around for three reasons.
- The cost of a fall. A network outage of two hours in an office with 20 people represents 40 hours of lost work. To assess this time, use your company’s hourly cost and consider the actual time of interrupted work. This is an example of a calculation, not a guaranteed estimate of loss.
- Monitoring helps to anticipate incidents. A drive that’s filling up, a backup that’s stopped working, an outdated antivirus – these are things you should check before they fail.
- The monthly report. Knowing what happened and what should be changed is what prevents the purchase of emergency equipment.
What to ask before hiring.
- How long does it take to respond, and how long to resolve an issue? I want everything in writing.
- Is the land included or is it an additional cost? In rural areas, this determines the actual price.
- Do you try the support? A support that has never been restored is not a support.
- What if I want to cancel? The reasonable approach is a 30-day notice period and no contract commitment.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is managed IT support?
A monthly service that monitors your equipment, applies patches, manages a help desk, and provides on-site visits according to a plan, at a fixed price based on the number of workstations.
Is it more beneficial to pay by the hour?
It’s advisable to compare around 8 to 10 teams, but this depends on the cost of downtime, the criticality of the systems, and internal resources. Monitoring helps to identify problems; however, it doesn’t prevent all incidents.
What is not included?
New equipment, software licenses, and installation projects, which are quoted separately. This also includes the management of those licenses.
